The pics on the following pages are of The Netherlands and are some of the places I visited over the months that I was there. There is a lot of history surrounding the Zeeland area from a Neapolean era fort to German bunkers and pillboxes from World War II. Lots of buildings date back to the 1600s and earlier. Arnhem is known for the John Frost Bridge which was featured in the movie A Bridge Too Far where the Allies tried to take the bridges over the Rhine River during Operation Market Garden.

Walcheren Island was also part of the battle to enable the Allies to use the port of Antwerp on the Scheldt River where the Germans had numerous bunkers with artillery that could play havoc with Allied shipping into the port. Walcheren was flooded as a way to help the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division clear the Germans out so the Allies could use the port. Buildings throughout the areas, especially church towers and windmills, show evidence of damage during the war.

I have tried to use the actual names of the streets and houses or other buildings that I took places of. I included the English terms of the words I do know. I hope you enjoy my view of The Netherlands.
