|
Through the Allied bombing of the dike at Rammekens on October 7 1944 Walcheren
was flooded and later liberated.
Monument constructed by Steef Roothaan on initiative from the Walcheren
foundation of monuments 40-45.
Unveiled by Mr. L. Ceevaal on 4 October 1990.
|
After the bombing of the dykes (dikes) on Walcheren Island during World War II,
concrete barges and Mulberrys like the ones used at Normandy were used to
rebuild the dykes that were damaged.
|
Ft. Rammekens is a Nepolean (yes, it is his fort) era fort dating back to 1547.
It is open to the public for tours on certain days of the week during certain
parts of the year.
